On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and value of a Training Needs Analysis (TNA).
  • More effectively define the problem you are being asked to solve and identify the most appropriate training and non-training solution(s) to address the issue.
  • Summarize the key steps involved in conducting a job analysis.
  • Explain how learner characteristics, such as experience, motivation, and literacy levels inform training design and delivery.
  • Explain how TNA findings are used to develop a structured training plan and align training content with operational roles and needs.

This course covers the following topics:

  • What is a training needs analysis (TNA) and why is it an essential first step in any effective training program?
  • Defining the issue at hand.
  • Identifying the best solutions (training and non-training).
  • Why conduct a job analysis?
  • The key pieces of information identified during a job analysis.
  • Information sources to inform your job analysis.
  • Why it’s so important to understand your learners.
  • Key learner characteristics that impact training design and delivery.
  • Common barriers to learning and how to overcome them.
  • Translating TNA findings into a training plan.
  • What does a good training plan look like?

This course includes an integrated online assessment.

Candidates must successfully complete the assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.
