On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • An overview of metabolic, muscular, and mental fatigue.
  • Relevant fatigue statistics.
  • Strategies to manage the different types of fatigue.
  • Sleep and its impacts on the body.
  • The differences between non-REM and REM sleep.
  • The body’s circadian rhythm and the factors that impact it.
  • Strategies to support healthy sleep.
  • An overview of nutrition and energy intake.
  • Nutrition recommendations for firefighters.
  • Relevant fitness principles.
  • The benefits of strong fitness levels for firefighters.
  • Recommendations for strength training in firefighters.
  • The role of aerobic power and how to improve it.

This course includes an integrated online assessment.

Candidates must successfully complete the assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.
