Competencies Obtained

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify aerodrome fire protection equipment due for inspection and/or maintenance, including hydrants, fire extinguishers, water supplies.
  • Determine the type of inspection, test, and/or maintenance required.
  • Describe the requirements for routine inspections, tests, and/or maintenance of airport equipment. 
  • Explain the process for returning equipment to full operational readiness. 
  • Record results and/or report faults in accordance with organizational procedures.

Course Content

This course covers the following topics:

  • The importance of regular inspection, maintenance, and training in the use of fire safety equipment.
  • Standards / Codes relevant to the maintenance of fire protection equipment.
  • Key types of inspections for fire safety equipment.
  • The importance of hydrant maintenance and testing.
  • Common steps to test the water pressure and flow rate from a hydrant.
  • Basic inspection of pumps.
  • Inspections of fire extinguishers installed at the airport.
  • The frequency of, and steps involved in, fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Benefits of effective record keeping.

This course includes an integrated online assessment.

Candidates must successfully complete the assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.
