Duty Free World Council has developed a global Code of Conduct for the Sale of Confectionery, Chocolate and Biscuit Products in Duty Free & Travel Retail.

The Code was developed in close cooperation with DFWC’s members and provides a unique standard for the promotion of responsible retailing of confectionery, chocolate, and biscuit products in the duty free and travel retail (DF & TR) channel.

This course is designed to support the implementation of the Code for those involved in the sale of these products.

Competencies Obtained

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Explain the rationale and purpose of the Code of Conduct
  • Articulate the key guidelines for instore sales and merchandising
  • Describe the guiding principles for customer communications and engagement – both in and out of store
  • Recognise the actions they should take in their role to act in accordance with the Code

Course Content

The Responsible Retailing of Confectionery, Chocolate and Biscuits course will cover the following topics:

  • Why is there a Code of Conduct, who developed it, and why?
  • Which categories does the Code apply to?
  • Application of the Code
  • Staff education and information tools
  • Best practice category layout and adjacencies
  • Optimal supply chain and stock management
  • Best practices for customer communications
  • Best practices for in store engagement, including:
    • Sampling
    • In-store promotions

This course includes an integrated online assessment.

Candidates must successfully complete the assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion.
